The Elecy

A hybrid between an ebike and a car.

How does it work?

As you pedal, the electric assistance kicks in until 15mph after which your speed depends solely on your power output.

Use it on the road or in cycle lanes on your commute. When needed, recharge a portable power pack from any mains outlet.

FAQs

How big is it ?

The Elecy is 2.5m long, 0.8m wide and 1.24m tall.

Who can ride it?

Designed to fit people between 1.5 to 2m tall, you do not need a driving licence to operate the Elecy, in UK and EU but you must be over the age of 14.

What is the range?

We're aiming for a minimum range of 80km per charge, however multiple battery options will be available with the option of increasing the range.

How much storage space does it have?

The Elecy has 300L of storage space, enough for 4 full shopping bags.

Can I carry my child with me?

Yes! By fitting the child seat, children up to 6 years old can ride with you.

How fit do I have to be to ride it/ how much effort does it require?

The Elecy is designed with efficiency as a priority, keeping the mass and aerodynamic drag low, therefore resulting in a low power requirement. You can select different levels of electric assistance resulting in different pedalling intensity to suit you! The Elecy is a great way to get some low intensity exercise into your schedule.

Where am I allowed to drive the Elecy?

You are allowed everywhere bikes can go, this includes public roads and cycle lanes. Considered an 'Electric Assist Pedal Cycle' the Elecy is legal to use throughout UK and Europe.

How fast can it go?

The electric motor cuts off at 25km/h (the legal limit), however you can go far beyond this on pedal power alone!

Will I need to pay insurance or road tax?

No, you do not need any kind of insurance or to pay road tax.

Is it safe?

The Elecy is being thoroughly safety tested to protect the driver in an impact, and has excellent stability characteristics.

How much will the Elecy cost?

At this stage in development it is difficult to predict, but we are aiming for it to be affordable, priced similarly to existing velomobiles.

Can I ride it without electric assist?

Yes! There is a direct connection between the pedals and rear wheels meaning you can cycle without any electric assistance, if you choose to or if your battery runs out.

The Elecy is currently in development, and the values stated are what we are aiming for but are subject to change.
